Google Play screenshot guide

Google Play screenshot sizes explained.

Unlike Apple, Google Play does not require one exact phone screenshot resolution. It defines a permitted dimension range and aspect-ratio limits, then gives stronger recommendations for listings that should qualify for broader promotional surfaces.

Quick answer

What size should most Android developers use?

For a normal phone app, a practical high-quality target is 1080×1920 portrait or 1920×1080 landscape. Google recommends at least four screenshots at 1080px resolution for app recommendation surfaces, using 9:16 portrait or 16:9 landscape.

General Google Play requirement: screenshots must be JPEG or 24-bit PNG without alpha, each dimension must be at least 320px and no more than 3840px, and the longer side cannot be more than twice the shorter side.

Phone screenshot requirements

UseDimensions / ratioNotes
Minimum allowedShortest dimension at least 320pxThe longest dimension cannot exceed twice the shortest.
Maximum allowedLongest dimension no more than 3840pxApplies to standard screenshots.
Recommended portrait1080×1920 · 9:16A strong default for modern phone listings.
Recommended landscape1920×1080 · 16:9Useful when the app experience is primarily landscape.

You can add up to eight screenshots for each supported device type. Google requires at least two screenshots across the supported device types to publish a store listing.

Tablet and Chromebook screenshots

Google treats large-screen assets differently from ordinary phone screenshots. For tablets and Chromebooks, Google recommends at least four screenshots that accurately show the large-screen experience.

Device groupRequired / recommended rangeAspect ratio
7-inch tabletUpload device-specific screenshots; for large-screen promotion use images between 1080px and 7680px.9:16 portrait or 16:9 landscape.
10-inch tabletUpload device-specific screenshots; for large-screen promotion use images between 1080px and 7680px.9:16 portrait or 16:9 landscape.
ChromebookAt least four screenshots are recommended for a strong large-screen listing.9:16 portrait or 16:9 landscape.

Do not simply stretch a phone screenshot into a tablet canvas. If the tablet layout is materially different, capture the actual tablet experience.
